Jana Barinkova had been playing the piano since her early childhood beginning at age four. She subsequently studied composition at the Janacek Academy of Music with Frantisek Emmert (JAMU, 2001-2006). Currently she studies towards a doctoral degree  - composition with Ivo Medek (JAMU, 2006-present), and earns a living as a music teacher. She has participated at many composition masterclasses (with Jeff Beer, Felix Baumann, Mark Pekarsky, Ivo Medek, Martin Smolka, Tomas Ondrusek, 2002, 2005). She is a member of the women composer group "Hudbaby". In 2010, she has been proclaimed to be a winner of the award for the most succesful author of classical contemporary music by the Czech Society for the Protection of the Rights of Music Authors and Publishers (OSA).

Competition Awards

- 3rd prize (Music for Strings and Percussion) at the national competition of young composers "Generace" (2004)
- Special Award for Czech composition, special award for composition by young composer, and 4th place in the international finale (Rainbow Island) at the international electroacoustic music competition "Musica nova" (2005).
