Biography

Adam Klemes studied composition at the Prague Conservatoire (Vadim Petrov) and the Music Faculty of the Academy of Performing Arts (with Vaclav Riedlbauch), and conducting at the Prague Conservatoire (with Mario Klemens, his father). He was a lecturer on music theory at the Prague Conservatoire and editor-in-chief of the magazine Czech Music (1997 - 2001), published by the Czech Music Information Centre.

Adam Klemens is one of the leading Czech conductors of film and theatre music (he has recorded music for more than 200 film, TV, musical, Videogame and CD projects). As a conductor he has concentrated mainly on 20th century music. He has worked with various ensembles including the Suk Chamber Orchestra, the Hradec Králové Philharmonic, the Prague Chamber Philharmonic, Slovakian Radio\'s Symphony Orchestra in Bratislava, the ensemble Prague Percussion Plus, and the Bambini di Praga Children\'s Choir. In 1995 and again in 1997 he was principal conductor of the Czech Jeunesses Musicales String Orchestra. He often works as a studio conductor during recordings of film and stage music. He is one of the foremost studio conductors for recording of film and stage music, and is much sought-after as an orchestrator and arranger - e.g. collaborated on film music with Karel Svoboda (Good Fortune from Hell), Aleš Březina (Divided We Fall), Michal Pavlíček (the BBC television serial production The Scarlet Pimpernel), Ondřej Soukup (Dark Blue World), as well as on the musicals Monte Christo and Dracula (both Karel Svoboda), a. o.

He is the author of orchestral and concertante works and has written a great number of chamber music pieces. His compositions won several prizes in national composer\'s competitions (Generace \'89,\' 91, and the Czech Ministry of Culture Prize 1990). In 1994 he was selected by Florida State University to compose a piece for symphonic wind orchestra, which was premiered in 1995 in his presence (Windy Music). In recent years he has become engaged in composing digitized music, including music for computer games. His orchestral work written in the manner of the minimalists - was acclaimed at the festival Prague Premieres 2004.

Adam Klemens often cooperates as arranger and orchestrator. This activity includes projects such as musicals Monte Cristo and Dracula (music by Karel Svoboda), Oscar nominated film Divided we Fall (music by Aleš Březina), film Dark-blue World (Czech Lion film award 2001 - the best film music - composer Ondřej Soukup), BBC series The Scarlet Pimpernel (music by Michal Pavlíček).
